    About the study

Las sendas de la regulación del cannabis en España is a collectively authored book, promoted by the Regulación Responsable platform, where the different prisms of cannabis are addressed, with special emphasis on sociocultural, educational and legal aspects. Chapter 12 of this polyphonic work is dedicated to the endocannabinoid system and the pharmacology of cannabis.

The endogenous cannabinoid system, or endocannabinoid system, is one of the most prolific and versatile systems in animal organisms. Its main function is to maintain the homeostasis of the organism, keeping it in conditions of physiological balance that result in a state of health as optimal as possible.

Regarding the pharmacology of cannabis, its intrapulmonary absorption generates more than two hundred different products when smoked, destroying more than 30% of the THC, with a fast effect and a duration of twenty to thirty minutes. The oral route, however, has a duration of two to six hours, acquiring lower concentrations of THC, but passing through the liver generates some metabolites that better cross the blood-brain barrier.

    Abstract

The cannabis plant produces over 400 compounds which around 100 of them are only found in cannabis. These compounds are known as phytocannabinoids. Each phytocannabinoid has a specific effect in the organism. Phytocannabinoids modulate the physiology of a biological system called Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The best studied phytocannabinoids are THC and CBD. Every day we find more pathologies that can be treated by ECS modulation.

    Excerpt: cannabis pharmacology

“The best known and most studied interactions at the moment are those derived from the combination of THC and CBD, the two main cannabinoids present in the plant. The first is psychoactive, can induce anxiety, produces alterations in short-term memory when under its effects and induces alterations in both the course and the content of thoughts. CBD, on the other hand, does not produce “high” effects, is anxiolytic, does not affect memory and does not alter the thought process.”
