Jordi Riba (1968–2020) was a Catalan pharmacologist who pioneered the human pharmacology of ayahuasca. With a PhD in Pharmacology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, he led the first placebo-controlled clinical trials with ayahuasca in healthy volunteers and the first neuroimaging studies on the brew. He directed the Human Neuropsychopharmacology Research Group at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (2006–2018) and joined Maastricht University in 2018. His later work documented the neurogenic effects of harmala alkaloids.
