Manel J. Barbanoj was a Catalan pharmacologist, recognized as a pioneer of clinical psychopharmacology in Spain. He directed the Drug Research Center (CIM) at Sant Pau Research Institute and the Clinical Pharmacology Department of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona, and was Associate Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Supervisor of Jordi Riba’s PhD on the human pharmacology of ayahuasca, his work laid foundations for the controlled clinical study of ayahuasca in Spain.
