Michiel van Elk is a Dutch cognitive neuroscientist, Associate Professor at the Institute of Psychology of Leiden University, where he leads the PRSM Lab on psychedelic, religious, self-transcendent and mystical experiences. With a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from the Donders Institute and international research stays at UC Santa Barbara, EPFL and Stanford, his work focuses on altered states of consciousness, psychedelics and the psychology of religion. He has co-authored a peer-reviewed study featured on the ICEERS website on the health status of ayahuasca-ceremony participants in the Netherlands.
