Aili Pyhälä

World Ayahuasca Forum

Aili is co-director of the World Ayahuasca Forum, co-leading the 2026 edition in close collaboration with partners from the Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute. She also serves as Strategic Advisor to ICEERS, supporting the organization’s outreach, communications, and fundraising strategies. 

With a professional background in environmental justice, biocultural rights, and human rights, Aili has worked in over 25 countries across five continents. Her work has focused on defending Indigenous peoples’ territories, cultures, and knowledge systems—across academic, policy, grassroots, and intergovernmental spaces.

She has served on the Council of the ICCA Consortium, taught as Adjunct Professor of Global Development Studies at the University of Helsinki, and advised governments, NGOs, and international agencies for over two decades. Her experience spans research, fieldwork, and evaluation of international cooperation projects in complex sociocultural contexts. She recently co-founded Tima – Ethical Connectors, an advocacy organization for ethical cultural relations.

Aili is also a trained facilitator in permaculture and ecovillage design, and brings a lifelong commitment to holistic health and nature-based traditions. Her personal journey includes decades of deep engagement with Amazonian plant medicines and medicine music.

She is fluent in English, Finnish, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and (almost) Catalan.
