ICEERS | September 17, 2025
From October 2 to 4, the INAWE Foundation will hold the first edition of Psymposium at the Official College of Physicians of Madrid, a leading Spanish forum that seeks to rethink and transform mental health through research, ethics, and psychedelic-assisted therapies. ICEERS will play a central role in this meeting thanks to the participation of its scientific director, Dr. José Carlos Bouso, who will share the stage with some of the most prominent names in international research.
José Carlos Bouso, a clinical psychologist and doctor of pharmacology, heads the scientific department at ICEERS and the Synaptica Clinic. With over a hundred publications on psychedelics and mental health, he will offer a critical and informed perspective on recent advances in clinical research, regulatory challenges, and the integration of these therapies into healthcare systems. His most recent book, Medicina psiquedélica. Manual para pacientes, clínicos, usuarios y curiosos (Editorial Kairós, 2025), delves into these topics and provides an accessible yet rigorous perspective for both professionals and the general public. His participation places ICEERS at the heart of an increasingly urgent debate on how to ensure that the rise of psychedelics develops with rigor, respect, and responsibility.
Also joining will be Marc B. Aixalà, psychologist, therapist specialized in psychedelic integration, and coordinator of ICEERS’ Support Center. With training in psychology, integrative psychotherapy, and holotropic breathwork, as well as clinical experience in psychedelic-assisted therapies, Marc will bring his expertise on therapeutic integration of psychedelic experiences, real-world cases, best practices, and the challenges of incorporating these approaches into mental health contexts. His book Psychedelic Integration: Psychotherapy for Non-Ordinary States of Consciousness serves as a key reference for understanding these processes.
A high-level program
The Psymposium program will feature internationally renowned specialists such as Dr. David Erritzoe from Imperial College London and Dr. Christopher Timmermann, an expert in neuroscience and psychedelic ethics, as well as Marcela Ot’alora, a renowned psychotherapist with decades of experience in MDMA-assisted therapy. Also participating will be psychiatrist Rosa María Dueñas, a pioneer in psilocybin studies for treatment-resistant depression; Dr. Liliana Galindo, a member of the Cambridge Psychedelic Research Group; Dr. Tomáš Páleníček, a European researcher specializing in the neurobiology of psychedelics; and Dr. Luis Caballero, who has extensive experience in clinical psychiatry and addiction. Other participants will include professionals of the caliber of Débora González, Antón Gómez Escolar, Óscar Soto, Irene de Caso, Tre Borràs, and Sorcha O’Connor, among others.
Over the course of three days, the symposium will address topics ranging from neurobiological and pharmacological fundamentals to the most innovative clinical applications, including treatments for depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance use disorders, and existential anxiety. There will also be space for ethical reflection, regulatory frameworks, and the role of civil society in the development of informed public policy.
Our Communications Coordinator, Igor Domsac, will also be present to document the event and preserve it in the collective memory, reflecting the diversity of voices and the richness of the debates that will take place in Madrid. With Bouso in attendance and accompanied by a cast of top-level specialists, Psymposium 2025 is confirmed as an essential event for those seeking to understand the challenges and opportunities of the contemporary psychedelic movement. ICEERS celebrates the opportunity to contribute its experience and commitment to this space for dialogue, learning, and collective construction of a future for mental health based on science, ethics, and community.
