Constanza Sánchez Avilés is a political scientist and legal scholar specializing in drug policy, human rights, and the governance of illicit markets. She previously served as Director of Law, Policy and Human Rights at the International Center for Ethnobotanical Education, Research and Service (ICEERS), where she led work on the intersection of drug control, social justice, and public health.
She holds a PhD in International Law and International Relations and has an academic background that includes research and teaching at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, as well as visiting positions at the University of Miami and the University of San Diego.
Her work focuses on national and international drug policy, the political economy of illicit drug markets, and the relationship between drug control regimes and human rights. She has conducted fieldwork across Europe, Latin America, and the United States, and contributes to international policy discussions, including processes linked to United Nations drug policy and human rights frameworks.
Sánchez Avilés is also a Research Associate at the Global Drug Policy Observatory (Swansea University) and has published extensively on drug policy, cannabis regulation, and the global governance of psychoactive substances.
