Benjamin De Loenen

Benjamin De Loenen is the founder and executive director of the International Center for Ethnobotanical Education, Research and Service (ICEERS), a non-profit organization working globally on the social, cultural, and policy dimensions of traditional Indigenous medicines. With a background in audiovisual media and communication, he first gained recognition for his documentary Ibogaine: Rite of Passage (2004), which contributed to early public awareness of ibogaine and its therapeutic potential. For over two decades, De Loenen has focused on addressing the challenges associated with the globalization of practices involving psychoactive plants such as ayahuasca and iboga, promoting dialogue between Indigenous knowledge systems and contemporary scientific, legal, and public health frameworks. His work includes international advocacy, public speaking, and collaboration with research institutions, policymakers, and Indigenous organizations, with an emphasis on ethical frameworks, collective stewardship, and biocultural conservation.
