Nexus 2025: Creativity, Art and Consciousness by the Mediterranean

    Igor Domsac | October 22, 2025

From October 10 to 12, 2025, Rincón de la Victoria, on the coast of Málaga, became the epicenter of artistic and psychonautical exploration with the celebration of Nexus 2025, a creative gathering organized by the Asociación Universo Ulises. Conceived as a space for free thought and visionary art, the event brought together poets, therapists, researchers, and artists in a dialogue between consciousness and contemporary culture.

On Friday afternoon, the Liceo Playa restaurant served as the opening venue. The welcome was given by journalist and cultural agitator Héctor Márquez, who presented the spirit of the gathering: a place to build bridges between science, art, and experience. His colleague, Miguel Gimeno, acted as master of ceremonies. Shortly afterwards, Jonás Sánchez and Jesús García introduced Ulises magazine, a publication with almost thirty years of history that has inspired a whole generation of explorers of the symbolic and the psychedelic.

The first talk of the event, entitled “Malaga in the wake of Ulises,” was given by historian and essayist Juan Carlos Usó, who has just published Historia del ocio nocturno en España (History of Nightlife in Spain), which traces the genealogy of Malaga’s counterculture from the 1960s to the present day, highlighting the importance of Torremolinos as a Mediterranean enclave of freedom. The day ended with a poetry reading by Antonio Orihuela, whose words resonated as a call to keep political and spiritual imagination alive.

On Saturday, in the auditorium of the Rincón Sol hotel, an intense day of thematic round tables unfolded. The first, “Psychedelia, art, and delirium: the aesthetics of trance,” brought together Elif and Celia Emily Casey, who addressed creation as catharsis, a path to knowledge that transcends the rational. Their presentations addressed a central question: whether contemporary art still constitutes an act of revelation or whether it has been reduced to a mimicry lacking in substance. In dialogue with the audience, they defended creative trance as a real experience, not a simulacrum, emphasizing that art, when it arises from the gut, continues to be a path to knowledge. This was followed by “From Torremolinos to Burning Man: psychedelic journeys from the end of the 20th century to the present day,” with Antonio Orihuela, Juan Ramón Cuadros, and Luis Otero, who explored the bridges between the Andalusian libertarian movements and global psychedelic communities.

In the afternoon, the panel “Healing Together: Psychedelia, Care, and Support Networks” brought together Aura Roig, Tré Borràs, and Missa Mejías in a conversation that was more than an exchange of ideas, but rather an invitation to rethink the very meaning of accompaniment. The three speakers, from different perspectives—community, clinical, and existential—agreed that working with people in challenging situations cannot be reduced to a decontextualized therapeutic practice. They emphasized the need to weave networks of trust, listening, and reciprocity, where care is not an exception but a form of social organization.

Next, “Expansive Codes: Psychotechnologies of the 21st Century” offered a glimpse into the future. Israel Sales, Igor Domsac, Juan de la Vida, and Ana Elda Maqueda addressed the relationship between technology, creativity, and the expansion of consciousness in a dialogue that ranged from theater and music to natural childbirth, permaculture, DMT, and Salvia divinorum.

The last session of the day, “MDMA for Peace in Dark Times,” was supposed to feature Constanza Sánchez and Jorge Ollero, but due to last-minute problems, it was ultimately Dr. José Carlos Bouso, ICEERS’ Scientific Director and author of the book Medicina psiquedélica (Psychedelic Medicine), who presented it alone. His rigorous and sensitive presentation explored the potential of MDMA in contexts of reconciliation and trauma resolution, both individual and collective.

After the intellectual density of the day, the night was devoted to the body and rhythm. At the El Muro Playa beach bar, attendees enjoyed the fresh repertoire of Houbero Selector, who wove a sonic journey through contemporary electronic landscapes. The flow of music accompanied those who wanted to prolong their conversations under the October sky of Malaga.

    Music and art

Sunday dawned with a proposal from Pablestina, who led a conscious free dance session in front of the sea. In it, bodies moved without words, in an exercise of presence and relaxation. Participants also built a colorful mandala with their own fingers, capturing the visual and emotional memory of the encounter. The afternoon opened with a poetry recital by Igor Domsac, ICEERS’ Communications Coordinator, and an acoustic set by …and the Martianits!, followed by an intimate concert by Francisco Villalobos Santos, the electric energy of La Puerta Giratoria, and a DJ set by DJ Kara Kan. The closing act was performed by the group AndThe and DJ Pirriqui, accompanied by a visionary painting intervention by Marina Ruty, adding a touch of color and psychedelia to the evening.

Beyond its program, Nexus 2025 was an experiment in coexistence. A space where critical thinking and artistic expression came together without hierarchies. Despite last-minute absences and substitutions, the event was sustained by a collective energy that exceeded even the most optimistic predictions. With its careful curation, Universo Ulises managed to organize an event that vindicated the transformative power of psychedelic culture. Facing the Mediterranean coast, for three days, Rincón de la Victoria served as a symbolic territory where creation merged with consciousness.

What happened at Nexus was, above all, a collective exercise in trust, generosity, and shared purpose. As the Ulises team describes, the soul of this gathering lies in the “spark, strength, and commitment” of those who made possible this space for expansive dialogue between art, science, and psychedelia. When communities come together with openness and gratitude, bonds are formed that transcend the boundaries of space and time.
